EU-parlamentet skall den 20 juni 2018 rösta om nya försök att censurera alternativa media på Internet.

"Om exakt en vecka ska EU-parlamentet rösta om den så kallade Artikel 13 som ger rättighetsinnehavare väldigt långtgående rättigheter på nätet. Enligt direktivet ska bland annat alla tjänster dit man kan ladda upp grejer säkerställa att det finns system som automatiskt raderar saker som tros vara upphovsrättsskyddade.

Kritiker till Artikel 13 anser att den kommer att leda till automatisk censur av nätet och riskerar att drabba saker som till exempel memes, parodier och annat. Nu ställer sig några av nätets absoluta tungviktare bakom kritikerna till Artikel 13. I ett öppet brev till EU-parlamentets chef Antonio Tajani skriver man bland annat:
"By requiring Internet platforms to perform automatic filtering all of the content that their users upload, Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet from an open platform for sharing and innovation, into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users." skriver feber.se

Article 13 of the Copyright Directive will force internet platforms (social networks, video sites, image hosts, etc.) to install upload filters to monitor all user uploads for copyrighted content, including in images – and thus block most memes, which are usually based on copyrighted images.

Every vote counts

It currently looks like there is a razor-thin majority in favor of Article 13. The negotiators for the EPP (conservatives), ALDE (liberals), ECR (eurosceptic conservatives) and ENF (anti-EU far right) in the Legal Affairs Committee recently expressed their support for the latest version of Article 13." alarmerar David Icke.
